AmmoExchange

Overview

A pioneering platform built for the US market that enables users to invest in an unconventional asset – ammunition. AmmoExchange merges the world of trading and e-commerce, allowing users not only to buy and sell ammunition like a financial asset but also to physically withdraw and receive it.

Challenges

  • Merging trading mechanics (real-time order book, asset portfolio, technical indicators) with e-commerce functionality, including physical shipment of assets
  • Designing for two distinct user groups: casual gun owners and seasoned investors
  • Creating intuitive portfolio views for assets varying by caliber, grain, manufacturer, and type
  • Building legally compliant and secure transaction flows for real-money investments and withdrawals
  • Acquiring domain knowledge in finance, trading tools, and ammunition to ensure realistic and trustworthy UX flows

Results

  • Delivered a user-friendly trading experience that demystifies ammunition investing for beginners while offering robust features for professionals
  • Introduced a clear and flexible product filtering system, making search and discovery easy across complex ammo specifications
  • Achieved seamless integration of trading and e-commerce systems within one platform
  • Designed secure onboarding and KYC flows that met legal and safety standards required for financial and firearm-related platforms

Key Learnings

  • Bridging finance, commerce, and legality requires not only technical knowledge but deep empathy for highly diverse user needs
  • Designing for regulated industries demands precision, resilience, and a close partnership with legal and compliance teams
  • Simplifying advanced tools without compromising functionality is crucial to making niche platforms more inclusive
